“I don’t feel like myself.”

You don’t seem to have interest in anything anymore.  Motivation is gone, and you don’t enjoy the things you used to enjoy. It is hard to make yourself do the things you know you should be doing.  You are lacking purpose and direction.  Life doesn’t have the same zest it has had in the past.  The world feels dull. You feel disconnected from others and can’t seem to make yourself be present and engaged. You notice others being able to “live life”, and this makes your inability to do so all the more painful.

“What’s the point?”

Loss of meaning and lack of a feeling of being engaged in life can be a painful experience whether you’re “clinically depressed” or not.  Everyone wants to be able to live life to the fullest and be able to experience the world in a meaningful way.  To feel as if you can not figure it out or make yourself feel better is frustrating, and can make you wonder if things will ever change.

“Why do I feel this way?”

You may have some idea of what the “problem” might be. However, it is not uncommon to feel as if this is coming from nowhere, with no rhyme or reason. “I have no reason to be unhappy, but I can’t help it”.
